Ged Foley    INSTRUMENTS

Guitar by J. Thomas Davis, Columbus, Ohio

Tom Davis has been looking after my guitars for more years that I care to remember. He knows my playing and what I look for in an instrument. This guitar was specially made for me over the summer of 2005. The back and sides are Madagascan Rosewood, the neck is Walnut and the top European Spruce. The body is roughly OO shape, although a little deeper, and the table and back are virtually parallel rather than the usual taper from button to neck joint. It sounds great acoustically and amplified. It is one of the best guitars I have come across.....

Guitar H A/E Custom, Santa Cruz, California

This is my second guitar. I found it in 2004 at Elderly Instruments in Lansing Michigan. I played it for ten minutes and bought it on the spot!

Elderly Instruments

Fiddle

I am not sure if this fiddle is French or German. It is approximately 150 years old and has a full rich sound. I bought it from Tony Ellis about 10 years ago but it was only after Berl Mendenhall reset the neck that it really came to life.

Bows by Noel Burke, Carlow, Ireland

I bought my first bow from Noel in 1999. It took me a while to appreciate it as I found it so intimidating in its responsiveness. After a while I realized I had a really great bow in my hand and that other bows did not feel quite right to me any more. So, I bought another one.

Capo by Dan Erlewine of Stewart MacDonald, Athens, Ohio

In 2004 Dan showed me his new idea for a capo. I thought it was a wonderful invention, especially for the way I play and the tunings I use. I had one custom fitted for each of my guitars.
